YUKARI BUNKA KINDERGARTEN

The Cornerstone of Development

After one visit to the Yuhari Bunka (Cultural) Kindergarten, you would soon realize it is not merely a specially designed and executed structure but also the full embodiment of ideals cherished by educators in regard to kindergarten education. In 1837, Frobel first established a kindergarten in Blankenburg, Germany. In Japan, since the establishment of a kindergarten affiliated with the Girls' Normal School of Tokyo (the predecessor of the present Ochanomizu University affiliated Kindergarten), early childhood education has developed based on Frobel's educational ideology. Frobel's concept of kindergarten encompassed not only educational' ideals but also concrete methods of education for young children and the environment necessary to accomplish such goals. Kindergarten education in Japan has grown relying on the prerogative of the privileged during the Meiji Restoration; therefore, at present it is still considerably entrenched. Furthermore, construction of kindergartens is standardized with little consideration of structure or form. All educational facilities, in particular those of kindergartens, play an important role in the process of growth, development, and character building of children.

The age of three to five years is particularly important in the development of children, as this age is critical in their formation of personality, individualness, and sociality. A place to be utilized by children requires variety and changeability, which can assist in drawing out their unique potential, creativity, and imagination. In turn, they can then also build up their physical strength as they determine their own existence and grow, cultivating a creative sense through strenuous activity and group experience. In addition, a favorable environment and place are required. so that children may think about and talk about their activities and experiences, and have peace, quiet and even solitude when necessary.

Yukari Banka (Cultural) Kirrdergarten was founded in 1947 by the late Ryutaro Hirota, father of Mrs. Fujita, together with Mr. aud Mrs. Fujita. The kindergarten was named Yukari Bunka by Naotaro Fujita, father of Matao Fujita, with the hope that 'We would willingly care for children here, bringing them up in a cultural environment and cherish our relationship for making the world a peaceful place to live." Yuhari means a human relationship that cannot be seen but is strong. There were many difficulties expected in realizing our ideal but the Yukari Bunka Kindergarten was founded in spite of them. Ynkari has grown since then with the continued support and love of people.
